Music for all?

September 26, 2011

Is there such a thing as a song that EVERYBODY likes? Working on a few video projects recently, I have been looking through my music collection and trying to find some music that would both fit well, and more the point, not put people off. So many times have i looked at demo reels or Gaming videos or even personal projects that people end my way that result in me having to turn the music off. There are some types of music that do not belong in a peice of media, that is going to be for a non musically targeted audience. For example. There are some song i listen to ALL THE TIME, That i would never dream of using in a video. No matter how much i love the song, i know that it is an aquired taste.

My musical taste can be discribed only as eclectic. My listening habits range from Very heavy metal, to swing jazz. From Prog Rock, to Industrial. From Opera to the blues. On one occastion, i went to a bikers festival and saw musical acts akin to ACDC and Black Sabbath, then the next day went to see Elton John live. How ever, i know that there is a wide selection of my music that most people just don’t want to hear. So that got me thinking. What type of music is the most accepted for people to hear, even if they don’t activly listen to it.

If i put some soft jazz into a video, people could still be entertained by the video, even if they don’t like the music. But if i were to put some Black metal into a video, it can be so offputting to most people that they will simply close the video. However i am currently looking for something in the middle. Before you start looking up black jazz metal (trust me, its out there) What i mean is I’m looking for a style of music that gives a video an UMPH but still won’t put people off. This seems like a musical chalenage that may never be compleated, but i will still continue my search.

So far this is the best kind of result I can find. Light EBM.

Failing at Blog

September 17, 2011

So I pledged to myself that i would add more blog posts about all my online activities. Well i have hit a major snag with that. In the last week or so I have been associated with 2 different projects. “Awesome” one might say, “I’ll have plenty to blog about” Yeeeaahhhh, Not so much. Both of these projects has something called a shhhhh policy. it means I can’t talk about them until they are made public. I haven’t signed any NDA’s, so i could talk about them if i really wanted to, but due to personal integrity and difficulty to spell some of the details :P

How ever I have been playing more games other than TF2 the past week. Minecraft updated to 1.8 and added a whole bunch of stuff that put the fun back in it again. That notch guy. Doing good work. Just that fact that there are villages, abandoned mines and strongholds to be found is awesome. it give me more incentive to keep searching the world. Keep up the good work mr notch.

Starting the blog back up again.

September 6, 2011

I’ve realize that due to a large number of person projects and minor freelance things, I have ignored a few things online that i used to hold close to me. VGN being one of them and this Blog being another. The last post prior to this was from March….MARCH. This simply won’t do. So I’m going to make an effort to have more posts about more aspects of my life. I’m not even too sure why I’m doing it. I know very few people look at my Blog, I guess I’m doing it for myself.

Each year (around august) I write a letter to myself, Give it to the postal service with instructions not to delivery it until a year later (I always feel like I’m from back to the future when i do that). This letter is addressed to me, talking about my life situation. I just wrote this years letter and sent it off. It was when i was writing it, that i realized how many aspects of my life i used to hold dear, have slipped away from me slightly, in my pursuit of new endeavors. So this is my way of clinching back.

What this means is a lot of the things that i used to think were un blog worthy, are now suddenly blog worthy. I’m going to have fun with this and turn it into an almost personal log.

Holy Crap, Monkeys everywhere.

May 30, 2010

Monkeys running a LAN. What are you? some kind of primate techie? Oh your not? Your actually a gaming group called Malevolent Monkees that do Lan parties every so often and invite people from the TF2 community. Oh well thats much better. Sure I’ll gladly come along to your LAN party.

This was a conversation I had several months ago. And boy am I glad I did. This led to me having one of the most enjoyable weekends of gaming I’ve had in a long time. I packed up my PC and all of its electronic counterparts, crammed them into my car along with a inflatable mattress, pillow and covers and headed to rugby. What was waiting there for me was a long list of people I have been in need of meeting for some time. Mogs, Alex, Flamecut, to name a few. Not to mention meeting up with Agro and Miss Meow again. yes thats right, it was a KK/VGN celebrity line up. Good times.

What I was expecting to be a simple sit down with your PC session turned out to be so much more. Firstly it was AMAZING weather and so we actually spent time outside. Yes that’s right, a bunch of gamers in the presence of the day star. Thank deity for BBQ’s a meat. I also got to play a bunch of really good games that would have flown straight pass me otherwise. Flatout 2 (I R Curling master), Attitude (SWEEET) and Grid. was great to pic up a game and have everybody suck at it and learn togeather. Really refreshing experience.

When the sign ups happen for MMLAN 12, My name will be down on that list, and so should yours.
